Important Letter

MSAD 13 is asking for your assistance in preventing serious physical harm to students in our communities. The school has become aware that students in grades 3-9 are engaging in dangerous physical fighting at the Quimby field and basketball courts after school and on the weekends. Several students have presented physical signs from participating in these fights, including black eyes, marks around their necks, cuts on their fingers, etc. The school has reason to believe that metal bats, sharp objects, etc. are being used during these physical altercations. There have also been a few reports of students choking each other until they turn blue.

Due to the high risk of students being seriously injured the district has made the decision to notify all parents, staff, and community members. The school has also notified law enforcement. Please be aware and monitor your child/ren accordingly.  No one wants to see a child seriously injured. If you have information regarding this behavior, please contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department at 207-474-9591 or call 911 for further assistance.

Our goal is the safety and well-being of our students. Please help us keep all our students safe.

Sincerely,

Sandra MacArthur

Important Information

As the end of the school year approaches, I want to make sure that you are aware of the following dates:

April 19th – April 23rd School Vacation

May 12th – Teacher Workshop Day

June 6th – Graduation Day

Once again, I want to thank you for all your support throughout this challenging school year. Without you none of what we have been able to accomplish would be possible. The district is planning to hold a prom and graduation outside this year. These events will stay as true to the Valley traditions as possible.

The Valley Jr & Sr High School renovations will begin on June 15th. Nichols Construction from Bangor was awarded the bid. They will be completing a trial window installation during April break. They are also hoping to complete the work on the East Wall of the gymnasium (stage) before mid-June. During April vacation the original Valley Gymnasium lights will be upgraded and replaced. The district was approved for a small grant through Efficiency Maine that will assist with the cost of this upgrade.

The following are important Budget Dates.

May 26th District Budget Meeting

June 8th Referendum Vote – Please vote

Be safe and enjoy the April vacation week.

Sincerely,

Sandra MacArthur

The RSU 83/MSAD 13 utilizes assessment data to help inform our practices at the district, school, classroom and individual levels for our students.  Although we encourage students and parents to participate fully in our assessment programs, it is important to note that parents/guardians may opt their child out of state testing.  If you are interested in doing so, please reach out to your child's principal to make this request in writing.
