MINUTES OF SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2013

QUIMBY MIDDLE SCHOOL, BINGHAM, MAINE  04920

7:00 p.m.

 

6:30 p.m. – Policy Committee Meeting

Leo Hill, Brian Malloy, and Virginia Rebar were present for the Policy Committee meeting.

 

I.                   CALL TO ORDER – The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

 

II.        ATTENDANCE/DECLARATION OF QUORUM

 

Present:           Bonnie Atwood, Adrienne Mathieu, Leo Hill, Ray Francoeur, Linda Hunnewell, Pauline Lagasse, and Brian Malloy

 

Absent:            Sheree Brown (excused), Joey McKenzie (unexcused), and Laurie Attwood (excused)

 

Also present:   Kassie Kemper, Jamie Kemper, Perry Leavey, and Virginia Rebar

 

III.       PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - conducted

V.                GOOD NEWS AND CELEBRATION

a)      Morning Sentinel article on “Quimby Students Give to the Community” – Ms. Rebar mentioned that our District received some “press” on the preliminary outreach activities connected with our emphasis on community service.

b)      Morning Sentinel article on “Celebrating Education” – Ms. Rebar shared a press article on the chorus’ participation in the KVSA showcase on November 1, 2013.

 

VI.             REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

a)      Reminder to Board members:  Membership needed on Teacher Evaluation Committee – next meeting is December 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Quimby Conference Room – Ms. Rebar reminded all of the need to have Board representation on the Teacher Evaluation Committee.  The next meeting is at 2:30 p.m. on December 5th.

b)      Reminder to Board members:  Contributions to the Superintendent evaluations are due by December 3, 2013.  Please turn in to Jeanette (Central Office), Brian (Board Chair), or Bonnie (Board Vice-Chair) in confidential envelopes. – Mr. Malloy reminded all to complete the Superintendent’s evaluation documents and submit them to Jeanette, Bonnie, or himself by December 3, 2013.

c)      ADT credit refund check – Ms. Rebar described her communication with ADT officials regarding the prolonged and difficult installation service regarding the access systems.  This resulted in a $3,000.00 refund.

 

VII.          SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS (Ad-Hoc Restructuring Committee, Finance Committee, Policy Committee, Negotiations Committee, Transportation Committee, Buildings and Grounds Committee)

Ad Hoc Restructuring (Vacant, Adrienne Mathieu, Pauline Lagasse)

 

a)      Policy Committee report – The Committee met at 6:30 p.m. on November 19, 2013.  Leo Hill and Brian Malloy were in attendance along with Virginia Rebar.  Considerations regarding changing Board policy EEA were discussed.  The recommendation from the Committee was to not change the policy due to the high risk of providing a bus to travel on Mahoney Hill Road.  A fee will be paid to a student transporter in the amount of $15.00 per day.

 

VIII.       PUBLIC INPUT

 

The residents of Mahoney Hill Road asked several questions regarding the maintenance limitations related to Mahoney Hill Road.  All questions were answered.

 

IX.             OLD BUSINESS

a)      Vote on second reading of Policy EEA Student Transportation Service – No action was taken on this item.

XI.             PUBLIC DISCUSSION OF NON-AGENDA ITEMS - None
